Techniques will first be practiced on manikin arms, followed by practicing a variety of different venipunctures on classmates during the laboratory portion of the class. In addition to learning the specialized skill of drawing blood and processing blood samples, students will learn medical terminology and anatomy as it pertains to phlebotomy.

Will students receive certification after completing the program?

Upon program completion and externship, students may take the National Certified Exam (NCE), through the National Healthcare Association (NHA) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). Students who pass the NCE may apply for state licensure CPT1.

Is the Phlebotomy Technician Training Program approved by the California Department of Public Health?

Yes, our program is approved by the California Department of Public Health, Laboratory Field Services to teach both the Full and Advanced Phlebotomy Technician courses that lead to a CPT I license.

Is American Harbor College accredited?

Yes, we are accredited by Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) which accredits only the Phlebotomy Technician I program.

What are the requirements to enroll in the program?

In addition to being a high school graduate from an accredited high school in the United States or having a GED equivalent, students must also have their foreign transcripts evaluated if they obtained their high school diploma outside of the country. Laboratory Field Services (LFS) will accept educational transcript evaluations from “current members” of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc (AICE).
